This New Year, why not join the thousands of people like you who have quit?
Throughout January 2022 Smokefree City & Hackney will be running a “New Year New You” campaign. Local people who smoke will be encouraged to quit with the service and start the year happier, healthier and wealthier.
Smokefree City & Hackney is the stop smoking service for adults (18+) who live, work or study in the City or Hackney (or who have a City or Hackney GP). The service offers medication (free to those who don’t pay for prescriptions) and free one-to-one support for up to 12 weeks. With support and medication, a successful quit is three times more likely.
Since 2018 Smokefree City &Hackney has supported over 3,000 local people to stop smoking and start living happier, healthier and wealthier lives. Amongst them are local residents, Deniz and Ahmet. Here’s what they had to say about the support provided by Hulya, their stop smoking advisor:
“Hulya gave us a lot of moral support, she was compassionate, caring .. and genuinely interested in trying to help us. She always answered our questions and gave us a lot of encouragement and useful tips. She made it easy to talk and was non-judgmental.”
Deniz and Ahmet have been smokefree for over a year and they are delighted with the results: “We feel much healthier … are sleeping and breathing better .. can actually taste food and can go out for walks.”
Currently, the stop smoking advisors are providing support over the phone rather than in person, making it even easier to access stop smoking support. Medication is collected from local participating pharmacies.
Marianne Fredericks, the City of London Health and Wellbeing Board Chairman said:
As an ex-smoker who kicked the habit 30 years ago, I know that it can be a real challenge to give up smoking, watch people smoking around you, deal with the cravings for a cigarette and yet, to stay away from them for good. It takes real determination and willpower but, with the right help and support, you can do it, so I am very happy to support Smokefree City & Hackney’s campaign and wish you well in your efforts to become a ‘new you’ next year.
