Louise Ashley has been appointed the new Chief Executive of Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Place-based Leader of the City & Hackney Health and Care Partnership.

Louise replaces Tracey Fletcher who left the Trust in March to take up a Trust CEO role in East Kent.

Louise is currently the Chief Executive of Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust in Kent, a post she has held for four years. During her time at the Trust, it went from a CQC rating of ‘requires improvement’ to ‘good’. Prior to that, she was Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nurse for six years at Central London Community Healthcare NHS Trust.

Louise first worked at Homerton between 1997 and 2000 as Senior Nurse for Children’s Services and Assistant Director of Nursing. She returned again 10 years ago to lead on developing the improvement of patient experience.

Louise said: “I am delighted to be joining Homerton Healthcare as Chief Executive and to be taking the executive lead in the City & Hackney Health and Care Partnership. I also have close personal connections to north east London, having lived there for most of my adult life.

“Homerton Healthcare has a tremendous reputation both within its local communities and throughout the NHS. Tracey is a superb CEO and a tough act to follow, but I shall make it my priority to ensure that this reputation for quality and excellence is maintained.

“I look forward to working with staff across the organisation as well as with governors, volunteers and partners to deliver the best services for our patients in hospital and in the community, and also to ensure that Homerton is the very best place to work for all our staff.

“I am excited too to have the opportunity to lead the City and Hackney place-based Partnership as I have been carrying out a similar role in north Kent. I know the different partners already work closely together and I believe we can further integrate services to improve population health and reduce inequalities in the coming years.”

Trust Chair Sir John Gieve said: “Louise has a very strong track record as a leader in  both acute and community health care. She has the enthusiasm, determination and skills both to ensure Homerton Healthcare continues to provide outstanding services to its communities, and to help shape a more intergrated health and care partnership in City and Hackney while strengthening our wider contribution in north east London.”

Cllr Chris Kennedy, health lead for Hackney Council said: “We warmly welcome Louise to Hackney and look forward to working with her in developing our new Health and Care Partnership to strengthen the provision of local health and social care services. We will support her in ensuring that Homerton continues to be a leading innovator in new and exciting ways of working which benefit people in City and Hackney.”

Zina Etheridge, the Chief Executive of the NE London Integrated Care Board said: “Louise will be joining Homerton at an important time of change as we further develop our integrated system across NE London. We look forward to working with her as we develop our local NHS collaborations across acute and community services.”

Louise will join the Trust in the autumn.
